Election Timeline

August 2025

August 11:

  • An email blast and postcard will be sent notifying members that there will be a General Election for UTLA Officers and Members of the Board of Directors. It will explain the early declaration process where qualified candidates receive a list of chapter chairs after they submit their declaration.
  • A separate postcard is sent out to Adult Education teachers regarding the interim Adult Education Director election. The Timeline (you are here) and the Election Manual are published on this website.
  • The form for Substitutes and Health and Human Service Professionals and teachers on with Itinerant Assignments is now only on utla.net.

August 14:

  • The General Election Declaration of Candidacy form (link not yet available) is posted and open for self-nominations of UTLA Officers and Members of the Board of Directors. Candidates may begin submitting the Declaration of Candidacy forms. Candidates will be sent a Chapter Chair contact list after confirmation of eligibility.
  • The Interim Adult Education Director Election Declaration of Candidacy form (link not yet available) is posted and open for self-nominations.

September 2025

September 12: 5:00pm Deadline for Interim Adult Education Director applicants to submit a declaration form (link not yet available). Adult Education Director candidates running for the Interim and General Election positions must file both declarations.

September 19: 5:00pm Deadline for Interim Adult Education Director candidates to submit (link not yet available) a photo/headshot and a statement for this website.

September 26: 8:00am voting begins for Interim Adult Education Director only.

September 29:

  • 5:00pm Deadline for General Election applicants to submit a declaration form (link not yet available).
  • 5:00pm Deadline for candidates to file an Itinerant Assignment Declaration form at utla.net. This deadline only applies to members assigned to more than one site who wish to qualify as an Area Director candidate. Itinerant members who wish to qualify to vote for Area Directors should also complete this form ASAP.

October 2025

October 6: 6:00pm Mandatory Meeting for Candidate Orientation. It will be on Zoom and an email will go out by Saturday, October 1. Ballot order will be determined at the Orientation. Sign-up for videotaping appointments Citywide, Special Directors and Officers will begin.

October 10:

  • 8:00am Deadline for Interim Adult Education Director ballots only. Electronic vote count. Results to be posted on this website.
  • 5:00pm Deadline for Interim Adult Education Director candidates only for filing Campaign Contribution Disclosure Report.

October 17: Candidates may begin submitting digital materials — flyer, photo/headshot, statement, and social media links — beginning today (link not yet available). Submissions will be posted in the order received. The deadline for submitting materials is November 22, 5:00 PM. If an item is not submitted by the deadline, it will not be posted.

November 2025

November 22: 5:00pm Deadline for General Election Candidates to submit their electronic flyer, photo/headshot, statement, and/or social media links before the deadline. If not received, they will not be posted. The candidate statement and photo/headshot will be published on this website and in the Special Election Edition of the UNITED TEACHER. There will be a link available of the Special Election Edition of UNITED TEACHER on the Voting Service website for members when they are voting.

December 2025

December 5:

  • 5:00pm Deadline for the electronic submission (link not yet available) of the flyer that will be mailed to chapter chairs. If an updated flyer is not submitted, the website version will be used.
  • 5:00pm Deadline for Members working in Itinerant assignments and as Substitute Teachers to file the Itinerant Assignment Declaration form at utla.net to qualify to vote in Area Director elections.

Week of December 8: Candidates sent an updated Chapter Chair lists.

January 2026

Week of January 3: Video recording for Officer and Special Director Candidates.

January 15:

  • 5:00pm Deadline for members to submit forum question (link not yet available).
  • Special Election Issue of UNITED TEACHER mailing.

January 16: Packets of Candidate flyers will be mailed to Chapter Chairs.

January 22: Citywide Officer Candidate Forum on Zoom. Sign up link for the Zoom will be available here closer to the event.

January 29: A PIN will be emailed to members and will also be accessible online thru “Find My PIN” on the Election Services Company’s website.

January 30: 8:00am Ballots are available. Voting begins.

February 2026

February 13: 10:00am Deadline for Candidates to turn in the Vote Count Observation Form if they cannot attend and choose to send a representative.

February 18:

March 16: Second round voting opens (if necessary).
