I also established a strong LSLC, knocked on doors in school board elections, organized school site pickets, established a CAT team and increased our PACE participation to 90%. I began organizing as a high school student around im/migrant justice. Currently I serve as the UTLA Vice Chair at Frida Kahlo Continuation H.S., House of Reps, Central Area Steering, and a cluster leader.
I have successfully organized to remove the harmful principal at our school. I have helped mobilize members to pass motions in Central Area to protect academic freedom and to call for an end to the genocide in Gaza. This summer, I trained thousands of people to defend LA from I.C.E. terror.

My name is Maya Suzuki Daniels, and I’m running for UTLA Board of Directors to represent the Harbor Area. I teach English at San Pedro High School, where I’ve worked and organized since 2018. As Chapter Chair, I led my site through virtual teaching and school reopenings during the COVID-19 pandemic. Additionally, I serve on the Harbor Area Steering Committee, CTA State Council, PACE Committee, and the UTLA Bargaining Team.

I am the current Harbor Area Board of Directors, AFT. I am the Chapter Chair, Barton Hill Elementary since 2021. I was the Co-chair 2019-20, 2020-21 SYs. I organized members to enforce the contract language against an unreasonable administrator in 2021.
Successfully organized members to participate in Strikes in 2019 and 2023. In 2023 I attended AFT TEACH Conference, became a
PACE member in 2024. Elected in
2025 as CFT State Council Delegate and 2025 CFT Convention Delegate.
