UTLA Elections

The UTLA Elections Committee announced at the August 30, 2023, East Area Meeting that there is a vacancy for the East AFT Board of Director position. Thus, a special election for the East Area is necessary. The term is for three years starting when the UTLA Board of Directors certifies the election. The term ends in June 2026. Only East Area members are eligible to vote in this special election.

This vacancy will be filled in a special election to be held on October 4, 2023, at the UTLA East Area Meeting. Any member who is assigned to an East Area school or work site who attends the October 4th East Area meeting will be eligible to vote. If you are an itinerant member who works in East Area, you need to fill out the itinerant assignments declaration form to be eligible to vote.

Candidates may declare their intent to run after the August 30 Area meeting by completing the Declaration of Candidacy Form (update: no longer available).

Only nominations submitted online will be accepted. Candidates must have been a member in good standing for 24 months prior to October 4, 2023. They also must be assigned in the East area.

The deadline for declarations is Friday, September 29, 2023, at 5:00 p.m. The special election will be held at the East Area Meeting on October 4th, after the candidates have given a brief presentation to the Area Assembly. The results will be verified and posted on this website. The Board of Directors will certify the election of the AFT East Director on October 11, 2023.
