Interim Election in Valley West
At the August 31, 2022, Valley West Area Meeting, the UTLA Elections Committee has announced that there is a vacancy for the Valley West AFT Board of Director position open in Valley West Area. It will be filled in a special election to be held at the October 12th Valley West Area Meeting. Candidates may declare their intent to run after the August 31 Area meeting. Candidates may declare their intent to run after the August 31st Area Meeting in writing by completing the Declaration of Candidacy Form for Interim Valley West AFT Board of Directors form.
Only nominations submitted online will be accepted. Candidates must have been a member in good standing for 24 months prior to August 31st. The deadline for declarations is October 7, 2022, at 5:00 p.m. The special election will be held at the Valley West Area Meeting on October 12, after the candidates have given a brief presentation. The results will be verified and posted on this website.
This is a special election that only affects UTLA Valley West. If anyone is interested in running for a position in the general election, to be in UTLA leadership for the 2023-2026 time period, declaration of candidacy statements are being accepted now for the election early next year.
UTLA Valley West Interim Election Timeline
- August 31, 2022: at the area meeting, Election Committee member announces the election process to fill open AFT Board of Directors spot. Position will be for the remainder of the current election term that ends in June of 2023. After the end of the area meeting candidates may declare their candidacy for the open position in writing on this website.
- October 7, 2022: candidate declarations for the open position are closed at 5:00 pm.
- October 12, 2022: area meeting—Election is held, after statements from all candidates, during the meeting (area leadership agreed upon timeframe).
Results are tallied and verified and winner is announced via email and notice on this website.
